Demelza Hospice Care for Children Christmas Campaign 2018

This Christmas, Southpaw has been working alongside Demelza to deliver a campaign that will help raise awareness as well as vital funds for children with terminal conditions.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children operates in the South East, and London. They work tirelessly to provide first class facilities for the children and their families.

This includes 24 hour care, respite days, therapies and bereavement support. None of this is possible without your help. Tom Poynter, CEO at Southpaw explains why we decided to help, saying: “We were given a wonderful opportunity to work with a remarkable charity and we just had to help them. It was a subject very close to our heart and a place where we can make a real difference to the charity. We want to dispel the myths about hospices being a place where children with a terminal condition go to die – at Demelza, it’s where they go to live.“

Watch the campaign film, voiced by Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, to learn more about the great work Demelza carries out each year. In the film, Daniel poses the question of what it means to live a #FullLife, a hashtag shared on social media every day by our friends, family and colleagues. But then he asks what it means for a child with a terminal condition. He continues with the message that Demelza believes a short life should be the fullest of them all. The film makes a play on other often-used social media hashtags such as #OOTD, #MeTime, #Love, #NoLimits and of course #Xmas and what it means for the children that Demelza cares for.

The film is set to be supported and shared across social media by a host of Demelza’s celebrity supporters, including TV presenter and singer Cheryl Baker, TV and radio presenter Dave Berry, actress and TV presenter Sally Lindsay, Olympic gold medallist ice dancer Jayne Torvill OBE and British former competitive figure skater Robin Cousins.

Demelza is almost entirely funded by donations and receives less than 20% of its funding from government. As a result, the charity is almost entirely dependent on the generosity of the public to keep going and help children who may not live a long life, live a full life.

We at Southpaw feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of this journey alongside Demelza, please donate what you can, and watch the space for this results.
